Welcome to the E.D.A.S (Essex Disability Access Services) homepage!

What is disability?

"A disadvantage or deficiency, especially a physical or mental impairment that prevents or restricts normal achievement"

EDAS is a company of Essex access auditors, all are all trained to a very high standard at Chelmsford College over a three month period. This is a full time course. Those able to pass the stringent tests become members of EDAS (Essex Disability Access Services) and National Register of Access Consultants (NRAC) level one.

All EDAS auditors are covered by our £500,000 Professional Indemnity Insurance. We have been involved in access audits all over Essex including, Essex Schools, Churches, Museums plus Public and Commercial buildings of all types and ages.

We also offer full disability awareness training from our highly trained teaching staff.

Some interesting facts about disability:

Fewer than 10% of service providers said that the costs of introducing changes to benefit disabled customers outweighed the benefits

In 2004 40% of the english population are over 45, the age at which the incidence of disability begins to significantly increase. (national office of statistics, Census 2003 and labour force survey update 2004)

Nearly one in five people of working age (6.9 million) in private households in great britain are disabled. (Labour Force Survey 2004)

Did you know that:

38% of young disabled people have been bullied at secondary school?

One in three disabled people have been turned away from pubs, restaurants, theaters and leisure centers?

Over a million disabled people are denied the oportunity to work?

It is time to listen to what the UK's 10 million disabled people want: the same human and cival rights as everyone else!
